How does the laser work?

The JAG pico laser is the latest in tattoo removal. It minimises skin breakage and the risk of skin fading is greatly reduced. It is also effective in removing, ‘ghosting’, where ink may be left from other lasers.

The laser energy is delivered in short pulses (nanoseconds). This energy is absorbed quickly into the tattoo ink which then breaks the ink down into small fragments. Your body’s immune system then removes these fragments, hence the fading of a tattoo.

 

How many sessions will it take?

There is no set amount. It can take 5-10 sessions although many factors have to be taken into account. These include age of the tattoo, the ink colours, how deep the ink was injected, your body's own immune system. It is always recommended to have at least 6 weeks between sessions in order to give your body the best chance of removing the ink. 

 

How long is each session?

This can depend on the size of the tattoo and whether you need to have cooling during the treatment. For example a 2cms tattoo may only take 2 minutes or so.

 

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, one person is allowed in the treatment room, providing they are over 18 years old. While the laser is in use, everyone present needs to wear the provided protective eyewear. These are sanitised after each session.

 

I have a latex allergy. Do you wear latex gloves?

All gloves are latex free. The initial consent and patient information forms cover medical history to ensure the treatment is tailored to you.

 

What can I expect after the treatment?

As the tattoo is being lasered, you will notice some ‘frosting’. These are small, white, raised bumps which are completely normal and will usually subside within 15 minutes. Occasionally pin prick bleeding can occur. Again, this is normal and usually stops within 20 minutes. Following the session, the area will be raised and you will have some cooling gel packs applied, followed by aloe vera gel.

You will be given an advice sheet on how to care for your tattoo area following laser treatment. Moisturising the area regularly, helps keep the skin supple and stops it becoming itchy. This will also prevent any scarring.

 

Is it painful?

Many people liken it to the sensation of having an elastic band pinging against the skin. As the ink starts to disappear, the feeling reduces, as there is less ink to react to the laser. Some clients like to use numbing cream on the area to be lasered prior to their appointment.

 

Will it fade completely?

There are no guarantees although most tattoos do fade completely.

Confidentiality is of utmost importance and nothing will ever be posted without your explicit consent. I appreciate that some clients also have sensitive areas or tattoos that they wish to have removed. Again, please be assured that confidentiality is at the forefront of the business. All personal details are kept securely in a locked filing cabinet.
